With all the sources of outdoor pollution we face today, it's nice to think that we can find a reprieve when we venture indoors. However, this is not the case. In fact, studies by the Environmental Protection Agency have found that indoor air pollution levels can be 100 times higher than outdoor pollution. The American College of Allergists report that 50% of sickness is caused by or agitated by poor indoor air quality.
HVAC UV lights are effective at removing and controlling mold and other bacteria inside the air handler of air conditioner units. Within AC units with UV tubes, mold near the UV bulb is killed, which keeps the coil (and ultimately the whole system) clean and free of mold, bacteria, and viruses.
While proven results have been shown for keeping air ducts clean and filters changed, the use of ultraviolet light tubes in air conditioners has also shown to be a further help in the removal of mold and bacteria in the air flow.
